Furnace maintenance
Furnace Maintenance in Whitehall, MT
One visit a year keeps a gas furnace safe, efficient and predictable. We clean what matters, test the safeties, and measure performance instead of guessing at it.

The checklist we actually run
Burner cleaning and inspection, flame sensor polished and microamps measured, igniter condition, inducer and blower compartment vacuumed, blower wheel checked for dust loading, capacitor tested against rating, gas pressure verified, safety chain exercised, drain and trap cleared on condensing units, and the heat exchanger inspected.
We finish with numbers: temperature rise across the exchanger, static pressure across the filter and coil, flame signal, and draft. Recording them each year turns maintenance into a trend line, which is how a slow decline gets caught before it becomes a breakdown.
Safety is the part you cannot see
A gas furnace vents combustion byproducts, and that path has to be intact. We check the exchanger for cracking, verify draft and vent integrity, confirm roll-out and limit switches respond, and look for the soot and heat-discoloration patterns that indicate a problem developing.
In older homes we also look at the whole mechanical room: water heater draft, combustion air openings, and whether a tightened-up house is now competing with the appliances for air.
Airflow, filters and the things people get wrong
The most common self-inflicted furnace problem is a filter too restrictive for the blower. A high-MERV filter in a rack sized for a cheap fiberglass one can push static pressure past what the blower can handle, dropping airflow, raising temperature rise and tripping limits.
Closed registers in unused rooms do the same thing from the other direction. We measure, tell you what your system can breathe, and recommend a filter that cleans air without choking the furnace.
Local knowledge
Built for Whitehall and the Jefferson Valley
Heating seasons here run long, and Whitehall's altitude means combustion has to stay correctly adjusted year after year. Annual service is how gas equipment in this valley reaches its full life rather than aging out early.
Late summer smoke and shoulder-season dust load filters much faster than the box suggests, particularly out toward Cardwell and on the ranch roads. We set an interval that matches your address instead of a generic ninety days.
Questions & answers
Frequently asked questions
When should I schedule furnace maintenance?+
Late summer through October, before the first hard freeze and before the phones fill up with no-heat calls. Mid-winter visits still help if you missed that window.
What is the difference between maintenance and a service call?+
Maintenance is planned: cleaning, testing and measuring on a working system. A service call is reactive, diagnosing something that already failed. Maintenance is what reduces how often you need the other one.
Is it worth it on an old furnace?+
Usually yes, especially for the safety inspection. If we find the unit is genuinely finished, we will tell you plainly and price a replacement rather than sell you service on equipment that cannot be saved.
Do you offer maintenance for rentals and multiple properties?+
Yes. Call (406) 266-1675 and we can schedule several properties together, which usually means less travel time on your invoice.
